After quitting

27 10 2009

So, now I’ve quit my job. I spent this weekend out with my friends from work, more or less saying goodbye. They promised to keep calling to spend time with me, but I know in my heart that won’t last long.

Really, all we had in common was that we worked in that strip club, and now I don’t. I’m not one of them anymore. I hadn’t really been one of them in a while. I didn’t go down on guys in the back for extra cash, didn’t have a drug habit, and didn’t dress like them outside of work.

Now, I’m even less like them. I go to mass every morning. I don’t strip. I dress in long skirts and blouses. I feel better about myself, and I’m happy to have put that life behind me.

I’m also scared and a little lonely. The girls from the club were really the only friends I had in real life. I always had enough money to get through the month. I didn’t have to worry about bills very often. Now I have to worry about all those things.

I have enough money in savings to cover my bills until the end of the year, which is about the best thing I can say. I still have that massive tuition bill and ridiculously expensive computer that I have to find some way to pay for.

How is an uneducated, jobless woman supposed to come up with $30,000 in tuition money and $5,000 in computer equipment before the middle of December? Someone please give me an answer to that, because I just don’t know. I’m praying about that every day, and I hope God will make the answer clear soon.

Joel Osteen told this story one Sunday morning not too long ago.

A little girl kept asking her mother if she could have a kitten. The mother kept saying “No.” She finally told the her daughter that if God gave her one she could keep it.

The mother watched as the little girl went out into the yard and prayed. All of a sudden a little kitten fell out of the sky along side the child. The mother was puzzled since there was no trees or roof over hang. A couple weeks later she found out that a neighbor three or four doors down had tried to rescue the kitten out of a tree. He tied a rope to the tree and the bumper of his car. The rope slipped and flung the kitten through the air. The man felt terrible thinking he had killed the small little animal.

The money you are seeking may not fall out of the sky. It may come as you need it. If you trust and believe your faith will increase.

Oh, your loneliness will disappear as you reach out to others. As you learn to love others your life will become full.

1. God uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise. (that’s where you put ‘uneducated’)
2. look at the flowers in the field. they don’t work, they do anything. yet, they are clothed in great splendor. are you not worth more than they, more than the sparrows? will not God- who has promised to provide for all your needs if you will only seek His face- provide for you as well? (that’s where you put ‘jobless’)
3. do not worry about tomorrow, tomorrow has enough worries of its own. (and reread points 1 and 2). perfect Love drives out all fear. GOD’s love, not your own. (that’s where you can stick ‘worry’ =) )
4. we are not citizens of this world. we are adopted into a whole new kingdom. you have a brand new family. you are already making friends in your new brothers and sisters. we belong to each other. (that’s where ‘lonely’ belongs)
5. God knows. His ways are higher than our ways. (you do not REALLY NEED to know. i know it’s nicer and easier on our brains if we do know, but faith is a muscle that must be exercised, or it will shrink away to nothingness. and that’s where you put ‘i just don’t know’)
everything i just said is from the Bible. i am sooo sorry that i do not know the books/verses, i have neglected to memorize them. unfortunately for you, now that you need them i cannot tell you where all these scriptures are to be found. i am very sorry for this.
maybe someone else can tell you where exactly in the Bible these things are located, and then you can go and read them up for yourself. as usual, don’t take my word for it. pick up THE BOOK and find out. =)
Jesus loves you, and so do we! feel free to ask any more questions the enemy might want to scare you with. ask me, Trudy, Pastor Paul, people around you who know the Word,… we’re here, and it’s what we are supposed to do. (go into all the world and make disciples)
hugs
Heike
